2007 Scholars invited to our 2008 Baseball Games

2007 Scholars are invited to be part of our Baseball Game celebrations with the Texas Rangers. Click here to read more about the games and to order tickets. We've got a great event planned with talks and autographs by former Rangers players to honor the Scholars. In addition, everyone purchasing a ticket through Lone Star State Scholars will receive two free tickets to a future game (ie. buy four tickets, receive 8 tickets) and everyone will also receive a free Rangers baseball hat (ie. 4 tickets = 4 hats).

Six Flags over Texas
If you are thinking about making Six Flags Over Texas part of your summer plans, we have worked out a deal with the Six Flags folks to honor and offer a discount to Lone Star State Scholars. You may purchase discounted admission tickets (good anytime this season) for $33. With each ticket purchased, youï'll also receive a certificate good for a free photo to be taken in the park. This sells for $12.99 at the park. (Order four tickets = receive four free photos). Thus, you can use these to take a family picture, as well as photos with the various Looney Tune Characters that are at the park. It's a great deal. If you are coming in from out of town for the baseball game, Six Flags is just across the street from the ballpark. Click here to order these tickets.

It's Time to Say "Goodbye"

So, this is goodbye.

June represents the passing of the torch for us. You’ve received this email since you were honored as a 2007 Scholar. Throughout the year, we’ve stayed in touch with you, sharing the accomplishments of other Scholars with you – and perhaps writing about your own accomplishments.

Think of how much has changed since you were honored. If you were an eighth grader when you were nominated, now you’ve already put a year of high school behind you and you’re ready to hit the 10th grade in just a few short months. If you were one of our youngest Scholars, a third grader, now you’ve zoomed past fourth grade and are celebrating being a fifth grader come August or September.

Over this time, I hope you’ve learned a lot and grown a lot. Perhaps the things that were hard to grasp now seem easy. You’re probably taller and wiser than you were at that time.

That means that over the course of this past year has been one of growth and now you are a better person – academically, socially, athletically, as well as a more caring individual.

We hope that the reason your teacher decided to nominate you over a year ago is still the same today – that you are still on track to be one of our country’s leaders in the future.

If you happen to have been named a 2008 Scholar, you’ll be hearing from us again shortly as we start up a newsletter again in the Fall.

As we say goodbye though to our 2007 Scholars as a group who’ve received this newsletter, we encourage you to keep working hard, keep seeking the answers, keep driving to achieve, and never stop daring to dream!

Our best wishes go out to you for the future.

Sincerely,

The Staff at The Scholars Program

News from our Scholars:

One Scholar writes: “Hi, my name is Kelsey Titus and I attend St. Mary of the Purification Montessori School in Houston, Texas. I have recently been promoted to the fifth grade. I finished this current semester on the Honor Roll and received an award for that accomplishment. I also received a certificate from the University of St. Thomas Archdiocese Essay Contest. At the school's sports banquet I was awarded trophies for cheerleading, track and volleyball. I am looking forward to the fifth grade but before that I am looking forward to vacationing with my parents, sister and brother. We are going to attend the family reunion in Las Vegas, Nevada. Just recently I have started learning to play golf and was named cheerleading captain for the upcoming school year. I wish everyone and my fellow Scholars a safe and fun-filled summer.”

Katia Mares just completed the 7th Grade and is looking forward to 8th grade. She’s a student at Juliet V. Garcia Middle School in Brownsville, TX. She joined Volleyball, Basketball, Track, Cross Country, Tennis and Softball as well as making the school's leadership, All-City Choir and All-Region Choir.
