Happy 2008!
Welcome back! We hope you all had a great holiday season and that your 2008 is off and running successfully.
Here's a few notes and news regarding Lone Star State Scholars.
2008 marks the third year of Lone Star State Scholars. We are excited to again be working to find the best and brightest students of Texas. Recently, we mailed to each school in Texas that has a 3rd-8th grade (or a portion of those grades) nomination forms. Teachers may now nominate their students.
Students who were 2007 Lone Star State Scholars may be 2008 Lone Star State Scholars as long as they haven't moved on to the 9th grade -- however, they must be nominated by their teacher and meet the criteria for nomination.
Since we are still relatively new, not everyone is familiar with Lone Star State Scholars. Parents... feel free to ask your child's teacher if they are aware of the program. If they are not, they can learn more and nominate students by going to our web site at www.lonestarstatescholars.com
We've been asked many times if we will have a night with the Texas Rangers for Scholars similar to what we did in 2007. The answer is: Yes. Details will follow in our February newsletter.
Again, best wishes for 2008.

News from our Scholars:
Alexis Chavez, a 6th grader at Fort Stockton Intermediate writes: “This summer was one of the best summers ever! I attended the National Young Scholars Program in Kerrville, Texas. The program was held at Schriener University. It was a week long program. I had a blast!!! I was also nominated to the People To People in Washington, D.C. and of course the Lone Star State Scholars, and Duke University Talent Search.”
Shariah Harris, a fifth grader at Rockwall Christian Academy in Rowlett Texas, received straight A's and for being the cut above student her first six weeks of school.
Caitlyn Cantrell, a fifth grader at Pantego Christian Academy, participated in a Music Performance on the outdoor Carousel stage at Holiday in the Park, Six Flags over Texas recently. The weather turned out to be very nice and cool for the late evening performance. A large group of fifth and six graders from PCA performed various Christian themed songs along with acting. They were dressed in long sleeve white turtle neck under- armor shirts underneath red polo shirts and white and red gloves. The students gave an amazing performance and drew a nice crowd of on-lookers. Prior to the performance the students spent hours of fun experiencing various rides and eating dinner. Although it was a long day for parents leading up to event, the students awesome performance made it all very worth the time spent at the Park! Special thanks to music teacher Felicia Davis for her hard work and dedication to the program.
