Our Holiday Wish
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or another special day or tradition, December is a month of celebration. For most students, you have an extended vacation coming! It is also a time of the year where you spend extra time with your family. As you get older, the things that you do this year will be part of fond memories for later years. The way you do things this year may become part of a tradition that you end up repeating every year. That’s all part of what makes the month of December special.
While many practice the tradition of giving gifts at this time of the year and enjoy large special dinners or parties, December is a time of the year where we are aware of how fortunate each of us really are to have special people care for us, love us, and share with us. Unfortunately for others, this time of year is no different than any other. There are people wondering where their next meal may come from and where one might find a place to sleep for the night. For them, the way they live on Christmas day is the same as any other day on the calendar. As you count your blessings at this time of the year, take time too to remember the less fortunate, and determine if there is a way you can make a difference.
Happy Holidays to everyone!!! May the Season of Giving provide you with many opportunities!

Most Interesting Email
As you may be aware, The Scholars Program also operates programs in seven other states similar to Lone Star State Scholars, including Florida’s Young Scholars in Florida. We received this email from a 2007 Florida’s Young Scholar for their newsletter and thought you would find it very interesting. This Scholars' surroundings have certainly changed since we honored him earlier this year. “My name is Hafsa and I used to live in Dover, Florida. My favorite color is red and I really enjoy science, literature and geography. I also had been nominated by my teacher to go to the Junior National Young Leaders Conference. Unfortunately, I was not able to go, but that was last year. This year, my life has totally changed. Now I am living in Karachi, Pakistan and I am also going to a school called the Generations School. It is very fun, and I'm not worried. I know I'll come back next summer. This is all that has happened to me. I also think that Floridas Young Scholars is a neat program and it should be used worldwide, regardless of country. There are a lot of smart kids all over the world.”
