Lone Star State Scholars November Newsletter

Black Friday Sales – and our Holiday Gift to you.

So Friday is the big day for shoppers to start reading their lists for gifts and presents as the holiday season officially kicks off. Are you going shopping at 4AM in the morning?

Guess what? Lone Star State Scholars on-line store is always open. You can order at midnight, 4AM, or even the absurd hours of the day like 10AM, 2PM or 6PM. Simply go to www.LoneStarStateScholars.com/merchandise. Select the option to “order online.”

If you do not want to order online, you can print out an order form and send it via mail to our office with a check. Since we have to hold checks until they clear the bank, the sooner you do this method, the better your odds are of receiving merchandise by Christmas. Click here for a printable order form.

In addition to the book, last year’s holiday season found plaques, sweatshirts, watches and smaller items such as pins and magnets to be very popular gifts and stocking stuffers.

We have a limited number of GameDay t-shirts still available. On a “first-come, first get” basis, we are giving these away – FREE – to anyone who places an order of $35 or more between November 21 and December 15th. When placing an order, list in the comment section your first three choices for size. If your first choice is no longer available, we’ll send you your second choice, etc. until we run out of shirts. Hopefully, you’ll get your first choice size – we have 25 shirts to give away. (We are sold out of Youth Large shirts). We have limited quantities of all shirts and will not be getting any more shirts in. This offer cannot be applied to previously received orders.

Health Care Information

As you know, Lone Star StateScholars has teamed up with Team Liberty to offer health benefit coverage in dental, vision, prescription, and accidental emergency room coverage. For more information, contact Team Liberty at 877.201.0844. Remember, members of the Scholars Program have the $30 enrollment fee waived. Today, we highlight the prescription drug prices.

The prescription drug program costs $24.95 for an individual or $29.95 per month for an entire family. The savings are phenomenal. For instance, using the home shipment method for Team Liberty compared to the home shipment method for Walgreens can result in amazing savings regularly of 150% and up to over 500%. The Team Liberty Prescription program is saving families hard earned cash by the hundreds of dollars each month in some cases. As an example: the blood pressure medicine Cozaar. If you ordered through Walgreen’s home delivery method, you’d pay $2.13 per pill. With Liberty, the cost is 52 cents – a 409% savings. Click here to see more price comparisons from a recently conducted study. Then click on the button that says “Download Price Comparison” to see the comparisons of many popular prescription drugs.

News from our Scholars
Fort Worth’s April McCreary, a ninth grader at Bethesda Christian School, writes: “This summer I went to North Arkansas and visited 8 different caves! Its so amazing to see what all God created. He is so amazing! Over the summer I also went to a girls basketball camp in Austin, Texas that was so much fun! My team and I all bonded and got better playing basketball, and having an awesome time! I did not win an award... but I did make the junior varsity volleyball team, and now I’m on the basketball team. I did not get all A's my first marking period, but I am working hard to get all A's this quarter.”

Lauren Preston of Richmond and a 6th grader at Navarro Middle School made student council, school choir and landed a role in theatre arts play.

Michael Westerman of Brownwood, Texas made all A's on his first report card, including his advanced classes. He is a captain for his soccer team once again. He attended Howard Payne University's soccer camp over the summer and won the Best Passer Award. He also is on the seventh grade football team and has been acknowledged for outstanding player on 6 out of 7 games. The team has only lost one game this season.

Kassie Marble, a sixth grader at Gilbert Intermediate School in Stephenville saw the Kennedy Space Center and the August launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor this summer. She made all A's and won Teacher's Merit Award the first six weeks.

Tanner Hoffmann of Cuero attends 9th grade at Cuero High School. He made the Varsity Football Team as a freshman this year (the only freshman to make the team). He is continuing to make straight A's in all honors classes.

Lone Star State Scholar Kelsey Titus wrote us the following news: “I had an awesome summer. It began by my family and me traveling to Harlingen, Texas to visit with my dad. While there we went to South Padre Island and played in the Gulf of Mexico. I learned how to ride the waves. Back in Houston, my mom took my little brother, little sister and me to the zoo. We even visited the Children's Museum. We went to various shows at the Miller Outdoor Theater. At the theater, we saw Second Generation Dance Company perform an African folklore. My sister, brother and I got the opportunity to go on stage and dance with them. That was cool. We also saw Street Beat perform Hip Hop dance routines. Mom also took us to the Harambee African Heritage Art Festival and to see Happy Feet performed at the Miller Outdoor Theater. My summer continued to get better as we traveled to Louisiana to visit with my grandparents. I attended the Harry Potter Party at Barnes and Noble thanks to Mom who stood in the rain to get the tickets. Thanks Mom! You are Wonderful!! We attended the party that night and stayed until after 1:00 am so I could purchase "Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows". The party was fun. There were scavenger hunts and face painting and balloons. We even got to take a picture with Professor Dumbledore and Harry. My dad came in for the weekend and we went to the Houston Astros game against the Padres. I really hated that the Astros lost. While my dad was still in town for the weekend we went to see the play "Go Diego Go--The Great Jaguar Rescue". We got the opportunity this summer to go to the movies. We saw Shrek 3, Are We Done Yet, and Surf's Up. The last part of my summer was spent in Orlando, Florida. We went to Walt Disney World. We took several pictures with the characters and got their autographs. We also rode some awesome rides. The one I loved the most was the Tower of Terror from the Twilight Zone. It took you all the way up to the 13th floor and dropped you. I was scared but that was GREAT!! With all that my family did for the summer, we were able to squeeze in swimming lessons for myself and my brother and sister for seven weeks. Now don't you think that was an awesome summer?”
